San Luis Obispo embodies all the natural wonders that make California—wine country, mountain ranges, lush environments, and the Pacific Coast. This is California’s little-known gem and is the perfect spot for an adventurous weekend away.
The fastest way down to San Luis Obispo is along Highway 101. It’s an easy drive that is approximately 230 miles long. Our favorite route to San Luis Obispo is along Big Sur, the Californian coastal highway. Though it is only 20 miles longer than the first route, the slower speeds make for a longer drive. This is often listed as one of the top drives in all of America, so if you are making the trip south and have a few extra hours, this detour is well worth it. You’ll have ocean views and cliff-side highways the entire way there so bring your camera and expect a few stops to take in the stunning vistas.
