Sitting just north of San Francisco, Sonoma County is an easy weekend excursion from the Bay Area. It’s a quick 90 minute drive from San Francisco via Highway 101. If you’ve got time to spare, use the drive as an opportunity to get out in nature and do some exploring along the way.
Make your first stop in Bodega Bay (70 miles from San Fran) to explore Horseshoe Cove Beach and Bodega Head area for some outdoor fun. Eat lunch in Bodega Bay, Spud Point Crab Company comes highly recommended. From Bodega Bay, head toward Jenner and drive east along the Russian River making a stop at Armstrong Woods to explore for a bit. From here head on up to northern Sonoma, perhaps stopping at some wineries along the way if your time and budget allow.
