The workload, the stress, the never ending list of things to get done - whatever it is, sometimes you just have to get away. A weekend in Sonoma County, particularly the Chalk Hill Wine Region, is the perfect place to relax, unwind, and imbibe.
Chalk Hill is often overlooked due to it’s small size, yet it’s one of the most treasured winegrowing areas in Sonoma County. Named for the chalky white volcanic ash that sets apart the soil of this region. It produces some of the best grapes for Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, and Cabernet Sauvignon. Sitting pretty along the Russian River, the hillsides are dotted with olive orchards, nurseries of chipotle peppers, and an African Wildlife Sanctuary.
For a getaway filled with wine tasting, relaxing spa treatments, fine dining, and even a little adventure - look no further than the Chalk Hill Wine Region.
Chalk Hill’s location in the heart of California wine country makes it an ideal place for a quick getaway from nearby cities. It’s about a one hour drive from Sonoma, an hour and half drive from San Francisco, and ten minutes from Healdsburg (where you will likely be staying).
Unfortunately, there are no direct trains or buses to this area, but there are plenty of simple driving routes and easy-enough public transportation options.
